MTP & MPO Trunk Cables

Wave2Wave MTP trunk cable and MPO trunk cable assemblies are factory-terminated high-density fiber backbone cables designed for data center spine-leaf architectures, storage fabric, and hyperscale interconnect. MTP to MTP fiber trunk cables are manufactured in 12-fiber, 16-fiber, 24-fiber, and 32-fiber configurations supporting 40G, 100G, 200G, 400G, and 800G parallel optics transceivers.

MPO to MPO cable and MPO MTP cable specifications: MPO-12 cable and MPO 12 cable assemblies use 12-fiber MPO connectors in single mode (OS2) and multimode (OM3, OM4, OM5) configurations. MPO-16 cable and MPO 16 cable for next-generation 400G SR8 and 800G SR8 applications. MPO-24 cable and MPO 24 cable for high-density backbone providing 2x the fiber count in a single connector. MPO 32 cable for 800G and 1.6T hyperscale applications.

MTP cable and MTP connector technology: MTP is the US Conec branded version of the MPO connector with improved mechanical performance, spring-loaded design, and Elite polishing for lower insertion loss. MTP connectors and MPO connectors are physically and optically interchangeable. Wave2Wave offers both MTP and MPO trunk cables with Elite low-loss versions available for cascading patch panel applications.

Trunk cable polarity and gender: Type A polarity (straight-through) is most common, used with MPO cassettes. Type B polarity (flipped) is used for direct MPO-to-MPO duplex applications. Type C polarity (pair-flipped) is legacy configuration. Connector gender options include pinned (male) and unpinned (female) MPO/MTP connectors. Wave2Wave engineers help customers select the correct polarity and gender combination for their specific patch panel and cassette configuration.

Fiber trunk cable jacket types: OFNR (Optical Fiber Non-conductive Riser) for vertical cable pathways. OFNP (Optical Fiber Non-conductive Plenum) for air-handling spaces above ceilings. LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) for European and high-safety environments. Interlocking armored for industrial and outdoor installations requiring rodent protection. Ribbon cable construction available for maximum fiber density.

Base-8 vs Base-12 MPO: Base-8 MPO cable configurations use 8 active fibers (2 unused in a 12-fiber MPO connector) and are optimized for 40GBASE-SR4 and parallel optics applications. Base-12 MPO cable uses all 12 fibers and is common for 100GBASE-SR10 legacy applications. Wave2Wave manufactures both base-8 and base-12 MPO trunk cables with appropriate fiber mapping for each application.

MTP trunk cable applications: spine-leaf fabric backbone, data center interconnect (DCI), GPU cluster backend network, storage area network (SAN) backbone, campus building-to-building interconnect, colocation cross-connects, and hyperscale pod-to-pod fabric.
